Description
BONDING AGENT FOR CEMENT & SAND SCREEDS AND RENDERS • ENHANCES
BOND STRENGTH & FLEXIBILITY • PRIMER FOR ABSORBENT SUBSTRATES
Plastinex is a water based styrene butadiene latex additive specifically designed to enhance
the bond (tensile) and flexibility (shear) strength of cement based adhesives to non-porous tiles.
Plastinex, diluted with water, reduces the porosity of boards & renders and is recommended as a
general primer.
ADHESIVE MODIFIER : Dilute 1 litre of Plastinex with 4 litres of
water for approximately every 25kg of adhesive.
CEMENT SCREEDS : For screeds & renders mix 20L of diluted
Plastinex (4:1) with 120kg of clean sand and 40kg of cement
(3:1).
CEMENT RENDERS : For thin section (3:1) mortars, mix 20 litres
of Plastinex with 40kg of mortar. For thick bed (3:1) mortars, mix
20 litres of Plastinex with 40kg to 80kg of mortar.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
All substrates to be sealed must be flat and true, free from oil,
dirt, grease or any other contaminants. Dilute 1 litre of Plastinex
with 4 litres of water for sealing or priming applications.
Concrete : New concrete must be allowed to cure for 6 weeks
and should have a wood float finish. Use Floor Prep to acid etch
an adhesive key into concrete finished with a steel float.
Cement Render : Render to be left with a wood float finish and
allowed to cure for 7 days.
Plasterboard : Plasterboard must be fixed as per manufacturer’s
instructions. Prime all jointing compounds.
Fibre Cement Sheets : Joints must be taped with PVC duct
tape and all boards fixed according to the manufacturer’s
instructions.
MIXING & POT LIFE
Add Plastinex to clean water at a 1 to 4 ratio. Add the adhesive,
cement or mortar and mix to a smooth paste free from lumps
by using a drill that has a speed lower than 300 rpm, or mix by
hand. Slacken the adhesive or mortar and re-mix after 5 minutes.
In mortar, Plastinex has a pot life of approximately 3 hours at
23°C and 50% relative humidity
